The Sacrament of Baptism is the gateway to eternal life in Jesus Christ. Those who are baptised are cleansed of sin and become a son or daughter of God and a member of the Body of Christ, the Church.
For expecting parents or parents with infants or small children that wish to present them for baptism, please contact the Christ Prince of Peace/St. Lawrence Parish Office at 724-763-9141 to schedule the baptism.
First time parents are required to watch a Sacrament of Baptism Video that can be borrowed from the Parish Office.
For adults that are interested in becoming a follower of Jesus and receiving baptism, please contact the parish office at 724-763-9141
To be a Godparent for Baptism you need to be actively practicing your Catholic faith. The parish has a responsibility to verify this. This is done with a sponsor certificate that says you are practicing your faith. Please contact the Parish Office.
Here are some basic requirements that the church gives us to consider a person to be an “ACTIVE MEMBER”:
1 - practice your faith by celebrating the Sacraments on a regular basis (goes to Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of obligation and goes to confession at least once a year.)
2 - provide the opportunity for religious education for your children and pursue an understanding of the faith for yourselves.
3 - follow the teachings and the law of the Church. If married, were you married in the Catholic Church?
4 - support the parish both through contributing to the parish financially (recordable offertory donations with parish envelopes, your own envelopes, or a check) and help in the work of the parish by being involved in ministries, organizations, and projects.
A nonCatholic person who was baptized in one of the Christians faiths may be chosen to be a Godparent (Christian Witness or Sponsor). This person must get a letter from their church indicating they are an Active Member of their Church.
One God Parent chosen must be Catholic. The second can be either Catholic or a Christian Witness.
When choosing God Parents, one must be a man and the other a woman.
Please do not choose 2 Godfathers or 2 Godmothers.
You may just choose one Godparent.
